Spravato Treatment
Spravato Treatment Personalized psychiatric care, evidence-based assessments, and safe, closely monitored treatment options available virtually or in person.
Spravato® (Esketamine) Treatment
At New Dawn Psychiatric Care, we offer Spravato®, an FDA-approved treatment for adults with treatment-resistant depression and depression with acute suicidal thoughts. Spravato is a nasal spray medication used alongside an oral antidepressant and administered in a safe, clinical setting under medical supervision.
Spravato works differently than traditional antidepressants. Rather than targeting serotonin alone, it acts on glutamate pathways in the brain, which are linked to mood, cognition, and emotional flexibility. For many individuals who have not found relief with standard medications, Spravato can offer a new and meaningful path forward.
Treatment is provided in our clinic, where you are supported by trained professionals throughout each session.
How It Works and Who Its For
For Spravato contains esketamine, a medication that helps rapidly improve depressive symptoms by increasing neural connectivity in areas of the brain involved in mood regulation.
Before Treatment: You will complete a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation to determine whether Spravato is appropriate for your symptoms, treatment history, and overall health. Insurance authorization is completed prior to scheduling.
During Treatment: Spravato is self-administered as a nasal spray while you are seated comfortably in a private treatment space. After administration, you will relax and remain under observation for at least two hours so our clinical team can monitor your response and ensure safety.
After Treatment: You will need a ride home following each session, as driving is not permitted the same day. Most people feel back to baseline later that day or by the following morning.
Initial treatment typically involves two sessions per week for the first four weeks, followed by a gradual taper based on your response and provider recommendations.
Spravato may be right for you if:
- You have depression that has not improved after trying multiple antidepressants.
- You are experiencing severe depressive symptoms, including suicidal thoughts.
- You are seeking an evidence-based option beyond traditional medication alone.
Your provider will work closely with you to determine if Spravato fits your clinical needs and treatment goals.
What to Expect from Spravato Treatment
Spravato treatment at New Dawn Psychiatric Care is structured, supportive, and patient-centered:
- Sessions are conducted in a calm, monitored clinical environment.
- You are observed by trained staff throughout the visit to ensure safety and comfort.
- Some patients notice improvement within hours or days, while others experience gradual changes over several weeks.
Common temporary effects may include dissociation, dizziness, nausea, or fatigue, which typically resolve the same day.
Spravato is covered by many major insurance plans, including Medicare and TriCare, with prior authorization.
Many patients describe Spravato as a turning point in their depression treatment, especially after years of limited response to other options.
