What is psychiatry? Psychiatry is a medical subspecialty that diagnoses and treats behavioral issues –– conditions that affect your mood, outlook, or behavior. All humans experience a wide range of emotions, but if your feelings become overwhelming or affect your routine, it’s crucial to meet with a qualified professional.

There are many reasons to seek psychiatric care. These conditions may include and are not limited to

Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD): ADHD affects your ability to concentrate. It’s often diagnosed in childhood or adolescence but continues into adulthood. Without treatment, ADHD may impact your performance at work or in relationships.

Anxiety Disorders: Anxiety is how your body responds to stress. It’s normal to feel anxious occasionally, but lasting symptoms may indicate an anxiety disorder. Psychiatry can provide you with the necessary tools to help you cope.

Bipolar Disorder: (Formerly known as Manic Depressive Disorder or Manic Depression): Bipolar Disorder is a behavioral issue characterized by manic highs and intense depressive lows. Without treatment, it can affect your energy levels and relationships.

Depression: Depression refers to feelings of sadness or hopelessness lasting for three months or longer. It isn’t just a case of the blues — depression saps your energy and makes you lose interest in things you once loved.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD):  OCD is known to lead to unreasonable thoughts or behaviors. Left untreated, it can take over all aspects of your life. For example, if you have OCD, you might wash your hands hundreds of times each day to prevent contact with germs or bacteria.

Psychosis: Psychosis affects how you perceive reality. Common symptoms of psychosis include delusions, hallucinations, and agitation.

LGBTQIA Issues: New Dawn Psychiatric Care is a welcoming and inclusive practice that provides psychiatric care for individuals from all walks of life; regardless of creed, race or identity.

Many people have more than one behavioral issue. Psychiatry can help determine the best type of treatment for your situation.
