Neurostar TMS

Personalized psychiatric care, evidence-based assessments, and safe, effective medication support—available virtually or in person.

NeuroStar® TMS Therapy

At New Dawn Psychiatric Care, we’re proud to offer NeuroStar® Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy, a noninvasive, FDA-cleared treatment for depression. TMS targets key areas of the brain that influence mood and emotional regulation—helping to restore healthy activity in individuals whose symptoms haven’t improved with medication alone.

Unlike ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy), TMS does not require anesthesia and does not cause memory loss or cognitive side effects. Treatment is safe, gentle, and performed right in our Bellevue office under the supervision of certified technicians.

How It Works and Who Its For

TMS uses magnetic fields similar to those in an MRI to stimulate specific nerve cells in the brain associated with mood regulation. This gentle stimulation can help rebalance brain activity, improving mood and reducing depressive symptoms over time.

  • Before Treatment: You’ll recline comfortably in a chair as our technician places a small, curved magnetic coil on your head.

  • During Treatment: The NeuroStar® device delivers focused magnetic pulses to targeted brain areas. You’ll feel a light tapping sensation and may hear a clicking sound.

  • After Treatment: Sessions last about 20–36 minutes, and you can return to normal activities immediately — including driving.

Most patients receive TMS five days a week for four to six weeks, depending on your provider’s recommendations.

TMS may be right for you if:

  • You have depression that hasn’t improved with medication or therapy.

  • You cannot tolerate the side effects of antidepressants.

  • You prefer a non-drug, noninvasive approach to care.

Your provider will complete a thorough evaluation to determine if TMS is appropriate for your condition and goals.

What to Expect from TMS Therapy

Treatment with NeuroStar® TMS is simple and comfortable:

  • You remain awake and alert throughout each session.

  • There are no systemic side effects like weight gain, fatigue, or sexual dysfunction.

  • No anesthesia is needed, and no downtime is required.

  • Covered by most major insurance plans, including TriCare and Medicare.

Many patients begin to notice improvement within the first few weeks of treatment, and results can be long-lasting—offering new hope for those who haven’t found relief with medication alone.
